How Chubb scores
Each category is scored against a published figure, then weighted into the overall score. Where a figure is not published, we say so rather than estimate one.
Sources: average premiums from NerdWallet's August 2026 rate analysis (Quadrant Information Services), for a 35-year-old driver with a clean record and good credit in a 2023 Toyota Camry LE at 12,000 miles a year, 100/300/50 limits with $1,000 deductibles — national average $2,356. Claims satisfaction from the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study (segment average 700). Complaint record from NerdWallet's analysis of NAIC complaint data, 2022–2024. Financial strength from AM Best. Discounts and app data from each carrier's published pages and the Apple App Store / Google Play, retrieved August 2026. Updated August 2026.
Strengths and trade-offs
What Chubb does well
- Coverage designed for high-value and collector vehicles rather than adapted to them
- Fewer complaints than expected for its size
- Writes in 49 states and D.C. — a wide footprint for a specialist
- Natural fit if you already hold Chubb homeowners coverage
Where it falls short
- Publishes no discounts at all, so there is no route to a lower rate
- Not built for price shoppers, and does not pretend to be
- AM Best rating could not be verified from a primary source
- No telematics program we could confirm
The full review
Chubb writes personal auto in 49 states and D.C. — Arkansas is the only omission — but the footprint overstates its presence. It has roughly 306 iOS app ratings, against Geico's 4.75 million. This is a small, deliberately specialised book aimed at high-net-worth households.
The empty discounts page is the whole story
Every other carrier in this review publishes a discount list, most of them long. Chubb's auto page names none at all. That is not an oversight or a gap in our research — it is a positioning decision. Chubb is not competing for the driver who will enrol in telematics, bundle three policies and pay annually to shave 15% off. It is competing for the driver who wants a claim handled without an argument.
Our benchmark is a 35-year-old in a 2023 Toyota Camry. Chubb quotes that driver $2,676 a year, 14% above the national average.
But that driver is not Chubb's customer, and a Camry is not Chubb's risk. Read the price as evidence that Chubb is not a mass-market option, not as a fair contest it lost.
Who it suits
Chubb suits someone insuring a car whose replacement cost is the point — a luxury vehicle, a collector car, or a household where the auto policy sits alongside Chubb homeowners coverage. Its complaint record is better than its size predicts, which matters more in that market than a discount list would. For anyone shopping on price, almost every other carrier here is a better starting point.
Chubb is a straightforward proposition once you accept what it is: insurance for people whose cars are worth protecting properly rather than cheaply. Its own app description says it serves Chubb Personal Risk Services clients, and its discount page is empty. If you are comparing it against Geico on price you have the wrong carrier; if you are insuring something that would be painful to replace, it is a different conversation.

Where Chubb sits in the market
Not plotted, because no public rate data exists for them: Liberty Mutual, NJM, Clearcover, Elephant, Lemonade, Root, Texas Farm Bureau. Complaint bands from NerdWallet’s analysis of NAIC complaint data, 2022–2024 (2021–2023 for Liberty Mutual and Mercury). We show the band rather than a numeric complaint index on purpose — the per-carrier indexes published by different compilers contradict each other badly enough to be unusable, because the index is reported per underwriting subsidiary and most sources do not say which one they used.
Chubb by state
Chubb writes in 49 states. If yours is not listed, it is not an option there at any price.
