How COUNTRY Financial scores
Each category is scored against a published figure, then weighted into the overall score. Where a figure is not published, we say so rather than estimate one.
Sources: average premiums from NerdWallet's August 2026 rate analysis (Quadrant Information Services), for a 35-year-old driver with a clean record and good credit in a 2023 Toyota Camry LE at 12,000 miles a year, 100/300/50 limits with $1,000 deductibles — national average $2,356. Claims satisfaction from the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study (segment average 700). Complaint record from NerdWallet's analysis of NAIC complaint data, 2022–2024. Financial strength from AM Best. Discounts and app data from each carrier's published pages and the Apple App Store / Google Play, retrieved August 2026. Updated August 2026.
Strengths and trade-offs
What COUNTRY Financial does well
- Far fewer complaints than its size predicts
- DriverIQ telematics, and its app is rated far better than the main one
- Discounts aimed at specific life stages, including engaged and newly married drivers
- Wider footprint than the name suggests — Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington included
Where it falls short
- 26% above the national average on our benchmark profile
- Main app rates 2.92 on Google Play and 3.46 on iOS
- AM Best rating could not be verified from a primary source
- 19 states only, and agent-sold
The full review
COUNTRY Financial sells through its own agents in 19 states. The name suggests a Midwestern farm insurer, and it began as one, but the current footprint reaches Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington — worth knowing before assuming it is unavailable to you.
The complaint record is the reason to look
COUNTRY draws far fewer complaints than a company its size would be expected to — the strongest band we assign, shared with only a handful of carriers here. For an insurer selling a service you only use on the worst day of your year, that is the measure that ought to matter most after what it costs.
And the price is the reason to hesitate
$2,976 a year for full coverage on our benchmark profile, against a $2,356 national average. That is 26% above, and roughly $950 a year more than Geico. A strong complaint record is worth paying something for; whether it is worth that much is a judgment only you can make, and it is worth running both quotes before making it.
COUNTRY's main policyholder app rates 3.46 on the App Store and 2.92 on Google Play — poor by any standard.
Its separate DriverIQ telematics app rates 4.55. The same company built both, which suggests the servicing app is a neglected product rather than a capability problem.
What we could not verify
COUNTRY Financial's own newsroom sits behind a bot wall and AM Best blocks automated access, so while an A+ (Superior) rating for COUNTRY Mutual appears in search results, we could not read it from a primary page. It is very likely correct. It is also not something we are willing to print as fact on that basis.
COUNTRY Financial's complaint record is genuinely excellent, and that is the measure most people should weight highest after price. The problem is price — 26% above average — and a servicing app its own customers rate below 3 on Android. If you want an agent relationship and expect to deal with humans rather than screens, the trade makes sense. Otherwise it is hard to justify.

Where COUNTRY Financial sits in the market
Not plotted, because no public rate data exists for them: Liberty Mutual, NJM, Clearcover, Elephant, Lemonade, Root, Texas Farm Bureau. Complaint bands from NerdWallet’s analysis of NAIC complaint data, 2022–2024 (2021–2023 for Liberty Mutual and Mercury). We show the band rather than a numeric complaint index on purpose — the per-carrier indexes published by different compilers contradict each other badly enough to be unusable, because the index is reported per underwriting subsidiary and most sources do not say which one they used.
